Advantages of Motorizing the Schooner

I fell in love with the schooner at a very young age. I had always wanted one and deemed as the ultimate status symbol. When I was finally able to get one, I decided to splurge for the top of the line on one of my birthdays.

I didn’t realize how labor intensive the vessel was. Even with a 5 man crew taking it out for a few hours would wipe me out for a couple days. I was about to return it and the salesman recommended I try adding a motor to it. I had never thought of adding a motor to a boat after you buy it. He got me a great deal and I have to say it is so much more enjoyable. I actually take it out more often since there is less to tear down. Only need a 2 man crew now.

It’s a lot easier to navigate for sure. The YC has a lot of narrow corners. It helps with resale value as well. Definitely opens it up to a wider market. As long as the crew maintains it, I should be able to get most of my money out of it.
